Friends of the School
The Friends of Parkend School welcome parents to join them in their fundraising for the school. They have been very busy lately with jumble sales, coffee mornings and end of term barbecues.
Please do come along to the informal meetings which are usually held at the school. All ideas and help are especially welcomed and there is always refrehsments and the chance to meet other parents. Contact the office for the date of the next meeting.
Chair, Cathy Selwyn. Treasurer, Ali Brown. Secretary Lynda Wallis.
Who are we? The Friends of Parkend School exists to raise money for our children and to enable them to do the fun things every child’s dreams of. It’s also an excuse for a coffee, a chat and the occasional glass of wine. We are very aware that most parents/carers work and are not able to make the meetings. Please don’t feel that you won’t be able to participate or have a say in what the Friends are doing. We need new ideas and are open to any suggestions. Please come and join in, speak to any member of the committee or come along to the meetings (which are advertised on the school gate). This is your chance to have your say about events and activities for the children.

Valentines Day
The Friends have been trying to get a school disco at the Memorial Hall together with the “Funky Monkeys”, unfortunately we have not been able to secure the entertainers or a disco at this busy time, (we did start 3 weeks ago). We are sorry to say that there will not be a disco at school because there are currently only three Friends members who will be able to make this date (Thurs. 14th February).
The Friends
This brings me onto my next topic, The Friends. Currently The Friends are running on a back bone of five people, Debbie Kolic, Martine Bewhay, Alison Brown, Lynda Wallis, and myself. Lynda Wallis has resigned as Secretary as she has now taken the position as Vice Chair of the Governors. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Lynda for all her help as Secretary over the years. This means that The Friends are looking for a new Secretary and other members to boost the strong support that we have. I can assure you that we will never fold as a charity in raising money for the school as we are a vital part of the school funding programme, but as there are only a few we are not able to provide the level of commitment that you and the children have seen before. Please contact me if you can help us in any way, albeit running the disco yourself with others or any other suggestions.
Easter Craft
Thank you to Debbie Kolic who has been our “Mrs Maker” in the Easter craft sessions provided by The Friends. This is one area that we are pleased to say has not been neglected and the children have really enjoyed making the Easter crafts.
Easter Draw
As previously, we will be providing each child with an “Easter Square” to sell the squares to be entered into our Easter Draw. First prize is a Mary Rose bowl. Second will be two complimentary tickets to the Dean Heritage Museum. Third prize is a Simmel cake. Fourth prize will be an Easter egg. We will also be holding a children’s Easter chick competition with a prize for each class.
Jumble Sale
Martine’s jumble sale is on March the 1st. Again, please feel free to have a big clear-out and bring your bits and bobs in for the Jumble. Martine will be asking for helpers, cakes etc. Please let her know if there is anything that you can do.
Yellow Moon
Please find attached a Yellow Moon catalogue. This company supply craft making and science kits for school children. If you would like to have a few things up your sleeve for the Easter holidays, why not order some kits? This is done as a fund raiser as The Friends receive 10% of the overall purchase cost. Please can I have the orders with money in by Friday 15th Feb.
Fund Raising Projects
The Friends need to raise £500 towards the cost of the events in National Science Week that Parkend School will be involved in. This is an invaluable week of fun and education all rolled into one and this is our new goal.
I hope that you understand and appreciate my honesty in our current situation and thank you for your continuing support
